ATLANTA, GA (March 16, 2008 9:00 p.m.): The Atlanta Police Department announces the following additions to the traffic plan that will be in effect tomorrow morning. Please remind the public that this plan is fluid and will change as roads are cleared of debris and buildings secured.
Officers will be posted at the following intersections to restrict traffic as indicated:
Marietta Street @ COP Officer will restrict westbound traffic
Marietta Street @ International Boulevard Officer will restrict eastbound traffic
Marietta Street @ Spring Street Officer will restrict northbound traffic
Marietta Street @ Peachtree Center Officer will restrict eastbound traffic
Peachtree Street @ Edgewood Avenue Officer will restrict northbound traffic
Peachtree Street @ Harris Street Officer will restrict southbound traffic
International Boulevard @ COP Officer will restrict eastbound traffic
International Boulevard @ Peachtree Center Officer will restrict westbound traffic
Williams Street @ International Boulevard Officer will restrict eastbound traffic
Traffic barricades will be in place at the following intersections:
Marietta Street continues to be closed in front of the CNN Center between International and Centennial Olympic Park Drive in both directions. However, eastbound lanes on Marietta Street from Centennial Olympic Park Drive to Peachtree Street are open, with barricades on the north side of the following intersections blocking westbound traffic:
Marietta Street @ COP
Marietta Street @ Spring Street
Marietta Street @ Cone Street
Marietta Street @ Fairlie Street
Marietta Street @ Forsyth
Marietta Street @ Broad Street
Williams Street @ International Boulevard
Centennial Olympic Park Drive has been opened for traffic, but the following side-streets will be blocked:
COP @ Walton Street
COP @ Nassau Street
COP @ Luckie Street
COP @ International
Peachtree Street is closed from Marietta/Decatur to Harris Street in both directions with barricades at the following intersections:
Peachtree Street @ Marietta Street
Peachtree Street @ Edgewood Boulevard
Peachtree Street @ Harris Street
Peachtree Street @ John Wesley Dobbs
Peachtree Center will be open, with the following streets barricaded to traffic west of the roadway, with barricades at:
Peachtree Center @ John Wesley Dobbs
Peachtree Center @ Edgewood Boulevard
Peachtree Center @ Auburn Avenue
Peachtree Center @ Ellis Street
Peachtree Center @ International Boulevard
Additionally, the following buildings have been identified by Atlanta Fire-Rescue as having broken glass in window frames which could present a hazard to pedestrians and vehicle traffic in the area:
- 84 Peachtree St. NW (The Flat Iron Building)
- 100 Peachtree St. NW (The Equitable) {They are making good progress on temporary repairs}
- 133 Peachtree St. NE (The Georgia Pacific Center)
- 191 Peachtree St. NE (191 Peachtree Tower)
- 210 Peachtree St. NW (The Westin Peachtree Plaza)
- 191 Peachtree St. NE (191 Tower)
- 101 Marietta St. NW (Centennial Tower)
- 190 Marietta St. NW (The Omni Hotel)
- 152 Luckie St. NW (The Tabernacle)
- 100 Edgewood Ave SE (The United Way)
- 55 Park Pl. NE
Once again, please remind the public to take extra caution and time when driving or walking in the city tomorrow.
No further information will be issued this evening. The Communications EOC will re-open tomorrow morning with officials monitoring traffic flow and making adjustments where possible.
