Morningside Nature Preserve

The Morningside Nature Preserve is a project initiated by the Wildwood Urban Forest Committee to stop the destruction of 30 acres of forest located in northeast Atlanta and to develop this land for leisure and educational uses, but in a way that is consistent with conservation principles (including protection of water resources and native vegetation).

The information presented on this page details the history of the project and the draft plan for developing the forest. This material is presented in a number of Adobe PDF files which may be downloaded by clicking on the links below. The files include the text of the draft masterplan and other files which contain drawings and diagrams referred to in the text of the draft master plan. (Note: file sizes range from .5 mb to 3.7 mb.)  Comments about the study were received online and in community meetings. All were positive and stressed the value of the draft plan. A number of comments included suggestions which were incorporated into the draft plan. The plan was submitted to City Council and approved in the June, 2006.  To get updates on this and other projects of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, click here.
