Bio

Office of the Fire Chief
Fire Chief Kelvin J. Cochran

The Fire Chief's Office is responsible for the overall operation and direction of the Atlanta Fire Department through the implementation of the agency's strategic plan. The office also ensures that the plan's objectives are proactive and consistent with the City of Atlanta's mission, vision and values.The office consists of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant, Fire Chief's Aid, the Chaplain, and the Public Information Office. The Office of Professional Standards is a section within the Office of the Fire Chief and is responsible for background investigations, internal affairs, advocacy and recruitment.

Deputy Chief of Staff
Deputy Chief Joel G. Baker 

The Chief of Staff is responsible for the Office of Professional Standards, the Public Information Office, Homeland Security, the Capital Projects Office, and Assessment & Planning. The Chief of Staff also manages the budget of the Fire Chief’s Office and serves as the chairperson of the AFRD Disciplinary Review Board. 

Support Services
Deputy Chief Wilmond Meadows 

This division monitors fire code enforcement, fire inspections, fire safety education and fire investigations. This division includes the Fire Marshal’s Office, Fire Prevention and Education, Training, Communications and Information Technology and maintenance of all real property and administration. 

Operations
Deputy Chief Christopher Wessels

The Atlanta Fire Department’s Operations Division is responsible for responding and mitigating disastrous incidents within the City from 30 fire stations.  The agency handles an average 125 incidents per day including Fires, Hazardous Materials calls, Rescue and Emergency Medical Services Alarms and Homeland Security Responses/Planning.

The Office of Special Operations is a part of this Division and handles the planning of Special Events and Emergency Medical Services.

Airport Fire Administration
Provisional Deputy Chief Randall B. Slaughter

 The Airport Fire Division’s mission is to provide unparalleled Fire Protection, EMS, and other Emergency Services to the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport Community. The division’s infrastructure includes: 232 Fire Personnel (217 Sworn and  15 Civilian Personnel), 5 Fire Stations, 49 Front Line Response Vehicles (Aircraft and Structural), and 6 Auxiliary Response Vehicles. It is responsible for protecting the “World’s Busiest Airport” which host an average of 200,000 passengers per day. The Airport Fire Division provides Aircraft and Structural Fire Response, Emergency Medical Services including Advanced Cardiac Life Support and transport, and Hazardous Materials Response and Mitigation. The division has its own training, inspections, and administration sections separate from AFRD proper. It also operates and manages the largest Automatic Defibrillator program in the Country.

ATLANTA FIRE RESCUE DEPARMENT COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS

The goal of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department is to provide a smoke detector in every home in Atlanta. This service is provided free of charge. Please feel free to click on the ASAP logo to the left and complete a request for a smoke detector installation. After completing this application a member of the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department will contact you to schedule an in home installation.
 

The Atlanta Fire Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to further the mission of Atlanta Fire Rescue and support Atlanta’s bravest by promoting excellence as the unyielding standard for emergency services.

This program serves to enhance the quality customer services that you deserve from the Atlanta Fire-Rescue Department.The services rendered under this program will be provided to you at no cost by a group of professionally trained facilitators.                                           
This training will further enhance your knowledge, skills, and abilities of emergency preparedness. It will enable you to become self-sufficient should an emergency or disaster occur that prevents or delays the response of professional emergency workers.The ACERT training program prepares thousands of Atlanta residents and workers to help themselves and others for up to 72 hours following a natural disaster or catastrophic event. As a team member, you will learn to apply basic skills to help sustain and save lives until help finally arrives.
